The program is designed for Orange County youth ages 14–18 or in grades 9–12. It includes four two-hour meetings. Each meeting combines two approved 30-minute teen Mental Health First Aid lessons with the Mental Health Association in Orange County (MHAOC) Youth Mental Health Ambassador extension focused on communication, boundaries, local resources, leadership and a youth-led community project.

Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) is an evidence-based course that teaches teens how to notice when a friend or classmate may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge, begin a supportive conversation and connect the person with a parent, caregiver or other trusted adult. It does not train teens to diagnose, counsel or manage a crisis.
