Blue Renaissance

Blue Renaissance

Blue Renaissance is a social skill building group for young adults (ages 18 and older) on the Autism Spectrum which meets once a month at various locations chosen by the members of the group. Meetings are typically held on Monday evenings from 5:00-7:00pm. MHA staff are present during the outings but only to facilitate socialization. Participants must be independent and not require supervision.

Social skill groups like Blue Renaissance provide multiple and varied learning opportunities on a multitude of platforms through structure and predictability. They break down abstract social concepts into concrete actions through modeling and example, along with sharing those interactions with peers. This provides opportunities to practice so that skills are used beyond the group in a daily setting (the supermarket, a family event, etc.). This is also an opportunity to give participants a safe space to express themselves freely. Social Skill groups also foster self-awareness and boost self-esteem to those involved. Our Blue Renaissance members have created lifetime friendships and continue to benefit from the various events planned on a monthly basis.

There are NO charges for these events. However, pre-registration is required. For registration, information, directions or if you need special accommodations, please contact Ashley Hitsman at 845-342-2400 Ext 1235 or ahitsman@mhaorangeny.com
