Respite Reimbursement Program
Supporting Caregivers of Children with OPWDD Eligibility
Caring for a child with special needs is a rewarding journey, but it can also be overwhelming. As a caregiver, it’s essential to take time for yourself to recharge and prevent burnout. That’s where MHA’s Respite Reimbursement Program can help!
What is Respite Reimbursement?
MHA provides reimbursement for respite services to families who have a child with OPWDD (Office for People With Developmental Disabilities) eligibility but no waiver. This program allows parents and guardians to take a break while ensuring their child receives quality care in a safe environment.
Who is Eligible?
To qualify for respite reimbursement, families must:
- Have a child with OPWDD eligibility
- Not currently receive an OPWDD waiver
- Live in Orange County, NY
- Use an approved respite provider (family members may not be reimbursed)
If you are unsure whether you qualify, we encourage you to reach out for guidance.
Why Use Respite Services?
Many caregivers experience stress, fatigue, and burnout, which can impact their well-being and ability to provide the best care for their child. Respite services allow you to:
- Take a break for self-care
- Spend time with other family members
- Run errands or complete personal tasks
- Recharge to better support your child
How Does Reimbursement Work?
- Pre-Approval: Contact MHA to confirm eligibility and receive pre-approval.
- Arrange Respite Care: Select an approved respite provider.
- Submit Receipts: After the respite service is provided, submit proof of payment and required documentation.
