Developmental Disability Supports

Mental Health Association in Orange County provides programs, groups, resources, and family support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Orange County.

Some programs require OPWDD eligibility, while others can help families understand the eligibility process and explore available services.

  • Family Support and Navigation Developmental Disability Family Support staff help individuals and families understand OPWDD services, explore available programs, access resources, and identify support that fits their needs.   • CAPIS Crisis Assessment Prevention Intervention Services provides free crisis prevention, stabilization, behavioral support, and family guidance for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Learn About CAPIS.
  • Youth Programs ASSIST helps Orange County children ages 5 through 10 who are OPWDD eligible build communication and social skills through structured group activities. Super Siblings provides a supportive space for siblings of children with developmental disabilities to share experiences, express their feelings, and connect with others.   • Blue Renaissance Blue Renaissance is a no-cost social skills group for adults age 18 and older on the autism spectrum. Participants take part in monthly community outings where they can practice social skills, build friendships, and increase confidence. Participants must be able to attend independently without supervision. Learn About Blue Renaissance.
  • OPWDD Family Support and Resource Group This virtual group helps families understand and navigate OPWDD services. Participants can ask questions, share experiences, learn from other families, and build a supportive network. The group meets on the first Monday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Register for the OPWDD Family Support and Resource Group.
  • Reimbursement Funds Reimbursement programs may help eligible individuals with developmental disabilities and their families pay for approved goods, services, or camp expenses that are not otherwise within the family budget. OPWDD eligibility is required, and funding is limited. Learn About Reimbursement Funds.
  • Respite Reimbursement Respite Reimbursement helps eligible Orange County families pay approved providers for temporary respite care. The program is available to families with a child who has OPWDD eligibility but does not currently receive an OPWDD waiver. Learn About Respite Reimbursement.
  • Article 17-A Guardianship The Guardianship Program helps Orange County families navigate the Article 17-A guardianship process for children and adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. A $300 fee covers assistance for the first 12 months, with additional assistance available after that period for $75. Learn About Article 17-A Guardianship.

  8. How Can You Access and Correct Your Information? You may request access to all your personally identifiable information that we collect online and maintain in our database by emailing us using the contact form provided to you within the site structure of our website.
  9. Do We Disclose Information to Outside Parties? We may provide aggregate information about our customers, sales, website traffic patterns and related website information to our affiliates or reputable third parties, but this information will not include personally identifying data, except as otherwise provided in this privacy policy.
