Volunteer and Internship Opportunities
Thank you for your interest in supporting Mental Health Association in Orange County, Inc. Volunteer and internship opportunities are based on current program needs, staffing capacity, and the availability of an appropriate supervisor. Because placements are limited, we may not be able to accommodate every applicant.
Community Outreach Volunteers
Community outreach is one of the primary ways volunteers may support MHAOC. Outreach volunteers attend community events alongside MHAOC staff and may help:
- Set up and staff informational tables
- Welcome and speak with community members
- Distribute educational materials and program information
- Connect people with MHAOC staff who can answer questions or help them find support
- Assist with special events and awareness activities
All outreach volunteers must complete MHAOC Orientation Training and any preparation required for their assignment. Volunteers always participate alongside MHAOC staff and are not expected to conduct outreach independently. Opportunities vary based on MHAOC’s community event schedule.
Occasional volunteer opportunities may also be available for special events, administrative projects, or other short-term needs.
Internship Opportunities
MHAOC offers a limited number of internships within nonclinical, noncrisis programs. Placement availability varies and depends on current program needs, staff capacity, the applicant’s schedule, and the requirements of their school or academic program.
MHAOC is unable to provide clinical supervision. We cannot accommodate placements that require clinical hours or supervision from a licensed clinician.
Because crisis services involve highly sensitive situations and extensive specialized training, MHAOC’s crisis programs do not accept interns or volunteers.
Application and Placement Process
Submitting an application does not guarantee a placement. If an applicant’s interests, availability, and requirements match a current opportunity, an MHAOC staff member will contact them to discuss the next steps.
Approved volunteers and interns must:
- Complete the online application and provide three references
- Participate in an interview or placement discussion
- Complete MHAOC Orientation Training and any required role-specific training
- Follow all MHAOC confidentiality, privacy, safety, and professional-boundary requirements
- Complete any background checks, fingerprinting, or additional clearances required for the assignment
